Barack on the Tonight Show
Last night President Barack Obama was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Now I happen to believe that the Prez might have better things to
do than play celebrity for a night, but I’ll set that aside for a moment. Instead of talking economic policy with Leno, Obama decided to compare his bowling skills to that of a Special Olympian! The audience found it hysterical, but Obama’s PR machine thought otherwise. Obama called the chairman of the Special Olympics Tim Shriver even before the taping aired, which apparently makes everything all better.
Couple things to mention about this. First, Obama’s best game, as he mentioned on the Tonight Show was a 129. That wouldn’t hold up to the fist 6 frames Kolan McConighey, the reigning Special Olympics bowling champ, who averages 266.
Second, the Tonight Show isn’t exactly live TV – its taped in the afternoon before it is aired at 10:35pm. Would the President of the free land be able to have a
little say on what actually gets aired on the Tonight Show? Why didn’t Secret Service rappel down from the rafters and seize that portion of the show? We’ll never know, but it’ll be fun to watch the spin doctors fix this one.
Lastly, could you imagine if it were W. behind those comments? I can’t even wrap my head around it. Enjoy your 100 day honeymoon Mr. President.
